Have dinner with Simon Singh!

Well not exactly — it’s not some sceptic’s version of Perfect Match. But if you’re in Melbourne on July 30th you could attend a dinner which is being organised by the Victorian branch of Australian Skeptics, at which the after-dinner speaker is none other than Simon Singh.

Here are the details:

Where — La Notte Restaurant, 140 Lygon Street, Carlton in the Club Room
When — Thursday 30th July from 6pm. Simon will speak from 8pm
Cost — everyone to cover their own meal/drinks, plus a small contribution to go directly to Simon

This is a worthy cause. We’ve all been following Simon’s legal battle with the British Chiropractic Association, and we can’t sit idly by while the tradition of free speech is muffled by outmoded legislation or lack of funds. So every little bit helps. And in true Melbourne fashion, we can help while enjoying wine and pasta, which is no bad thing.

Don’t make reservations via the restaurant or turn up on the evening — please contact Ken Greatorex at Vic Skeptics via kengreatorex at msn dot com.

See you on the 30th :-)

Is Simon likely to visit other areas of Australia — ie Perth?

Christ — I keep missing him. When I am in Adelaide he’s in Melbourne gah!

Simon is visiting Adelaide for the Festival of Ideas and visiting Sydney to do a talk at the University of Sydney (I think), and then Melbourne, but I believe that’s all. Poor Perth.. at least you guys will get Skeptic Zone late in the year!

Yeah — just when I am overseas!
