Regarding the camps that try to de-gay people, there's a great American indie movie that explores the very scenario you suggested called "But I'm a Cheerleader" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0179116/

Appreciate the focus on climate change semantics, gang. IMHO it's an issue that still reflects wide spread ignorance - understandably, I guess.

Awesome to hear of the study into sexual orientation. I was shocked to hear two of our national public health bodies endorse with gusto a Focus on the Family programme. FoF believe in "therapy" for "homosexuality, the disease". The absence of a father figure - as God intended - is to be feared.... feared I tells ya!

In a nutshell all teen dysfunctionality can be headed off by "not straying", remaining monogamous, heterosexual, raise kids "in Christ", attend church weekly, eat as a family ["dinner time is family time, just as Sunday is church day"] and much more, sadly. No response from anyone on how this assists a multi-faith, multicultural and progressively tolerant society - which is what I thought we boasted of. Sigh.

Public health attracts lots of fundamentalist lobbyists. One wrote to me during the AVN issue to explain that skepticism is 'the collective manifestation of latent hatred in Australia', populated by "academic types, bereft of life experience" - I shag you not. Vaccination is against more than one/two religious persuasions. My "unquestioning belief of Darwinist religion" is no doubt messing me up - I knew something was to blame....

    *  Parents guide to preventing homosexuality, by Joseph Nicolosi;

    * Dr. Nicolosi is the founder and president of NARTH, National Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuality.

My most educated assessment is that "holistic", "wellness" and other messy terms, are peppering funding submissions. Or rather, successful submissions. My thoughts are that the increase in the "normality" of Natural Therapy is pressuring groups to provide it - just in case clients go elsewhere. Hence if the 'wellness industry' is growing, grow with it or grow not. Then there's the issue of who gets the lions share.

@ Joel. I agree.

MW aren't the friends of Truth and Conduct one tends to conclude from witnessing their diligence. I'm a huge fan, love most presenters, have shared in triumphs but they do tread a legal balance beam. Controversy isn't something they actively seek.

Although there are a number of variants on what is the best term to describe the breathlessly gullible people who reject climate change science (including "climate creationist"), I think you will find that 'Denier' is the most commonly used and accepted (http://greenfyre.wordpress.com/denier-vs-skeptic/), even in Oz.

Further, I am happy to report that climate activists work hard to keep a clear distinction between honourable skepticism and the brain dead denial, at least in part because so many climate activists self-identify as skeptics.

Keep up the good work.

hope this isn't a hijack, but this notion @ Luke above, of illicit activity defiling sacred places, reminded me that we should send PZ to Daylesford in March ... One of the anchor attractions is the convent abandoned by the Christians, but now run as a gallery / spa B&B

What a great showcase of how a post Christian society uses the abandoned infrastructure of the church to support life and culture affirming purposes!

A great image for the Atheist Con to project - "Post Christian Australia" ...

LOL @ the "Jesus will save us from climate change" girl.

Also, LOL @ the Creation Museum being scared of gay people having sex in the bathrooms. There will be probably be some gay people who will go and do it now, just because it would epically troll them up.
