On Friday a small group of us went to see 2012 at Melbourne Central. I would just like to say thank you to everyone who came, and even though it was only a small group we still managed to meet new people and have a fantastic discussion and a great time!

We will be doing more of this in the future so stay tuned and please feel free to email in with suggestions!

What did you think of the movie?

2012 is one of the most stupid movies I have ever seen, hands down.

That being said, it was a pretty cool roller-coaster, and if I ragged on it for being unrealistic, i’d deny myself the right to enjoy the next transformers movie.

I am glad that they didn’t spend too long on the mayan prediction stuff too. The fact that the movie doesn’t take itself to seriously makes it easier to digest as well.

There has to be some kind of YAS event when the convention is on. Pub, cinema, dinner, anything like that. That way visiting skeptics, such as myself, can intrude.

Would have loved to see it. Sadly, I was otherwise occupied…

    It was very anti-religion.

“The movie depicts a global doomsday event supposedly predicted by the Mayans more than a thousand years ago – in order to highlight his opposition to organised religion, the director decided to use CGI to destroy the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro. For good measure, he also blew up the Sistine chapel and St Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican, plus, on a secular note, the White House (again).”

The ending was very Humanistic as well.

Roland Emmerich is certainly a very liberal guy who isn’t afraid to butt heads with conservatives, so it shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise.

It may have been anti-religious, but it was definitely fail science most of the way through.
