Another term for K-Rudd!

I know it may seem like I’m jumping the gun a bit on calling this one, but I assure you that come next election newspapers will be screaming that result at us. December 1st, it would seem, was the day that will be forever remembered as the day the Liberal Party decided to extend their stay as opposition party by an extra term by electing eminently unelectable piece of slime Tony Abbott leader of the party.

Of course, it’s entirely possible that I’ve overestimated the Australian public, and there really are enough staunch Liberal voters out there to elect someone with as deplorable a history as Mr Abbott on so many policies, including climate change, female reproductive rights, and his ability to separate religion from the political process. I sincerely hope not though…

WHY? DEAR ALLAH, WHY???

…every day, in every way, voting for the Green Party seems like a better and better idea.

Indeed, as Elliot said, this isn’t my site. However, if you’re going to tell me to think about what I post, I’m going to ask you to read the damn article properly.

To characterize me as belonging to the ‘radical left’ is one of the more laughable assertions, as is the suggestion that I anywhere have said that nobody smart would vote for the liberal party. Hell, personally I lament the fact that the liberal party have decided to put Abbott in the top job, when Hockey would have been someone I could have genuinely voted for in preference to K-Rudd.

Also, you want a reason not to vote for Tony Abbott? Did you bother to click through any of the links? Are you unaware of the man’s history in regards to reproductive rights and climate change? Euthanasia? Gay marriage?

I do not think, nor have I ever suggested, that people who disagree with me on political issues are necessarily stupid or unskeptical. I do think that Tony Abbott is a moral midget, and is thankfully completely incapable of winning the next election (though in the long term they may have saved Hockey politically to lead the party in the future).

As for using the term ‘retard’ — I am, quite frankly, unapologetic. The timing, I will admit, was unfortunate — I’m not in charge of scheduling articles on the site though…

I dont want to vote for labor becasue of the Internet filtering. I dont want to vote for liberals becasue of their stance on climate change, and I dont want to vote for the greens for their stance on Nuclear power.

Donkey vote it is for me :(

    There’s no-one to vote for…

Alastair Tait has summed it up.

On the right, we have the science deniers, with a sprinkling of agrarian socialism, and a large dose of economic illiteracy (Abbott’s climate change policy would make the Soviets proud).

On the left we have an increasingly bloated and bureaucratic government with a technically illiterate communications minister who proudly says that if China can censor the internet, we can too.

The greens are a group of watermelons, and their staunch anti-nuclear stance makes them completely ineffective anyway.

All I want is a party with small-government tendencies, who approaches policy rationally, without attempting to dictate matters of fact to scientists. One that would broaden the tax base, reduce middle-class welfare, yet implement a decent cap-and-trade system for the very real problem of climate change.

There is simply no such party in Australia. I don’t think I’ll donkey vote though. The big-government bureaucrats are preferable to the science-denying loonies.
